Overview
BaFin is Germany's integrated financial supervisor, formed in 2002 from the merger of the banking, insurance, and securities regulators. It supervises roughly 8,000 entities across banking, insurance, asset management, payments, and — since 2020 — crypto-asset custody. Under the Single Supervisory Mechanism BaFin shares direct supervision of Germany's significant banks with the ECB.
