Overview

The Central Bank of Cyprus is the island's central bank within the Eurosystem and the prudential supervisor of Cypriot credit institutions under the Single Supervisory Mechanism; it also licenses payment and electronic money institutions and holds the MiCA roles for e-money and asset-referenced tokens, alongside CySEC's CASP remit. Its Annual Report 2025, published 28 April 2026, records a banking system whose non-performing-loan ratio fell to 1.6% at end-2025 — below the EU average of 1.8% — a remarkable arc for a system that a decade ago carried among the highest NPL burdens in Europe. The Governor has proposed a modernisation of the CBC's own governance model to the President of the Republic and the Minister of Finance. Everything below is the CBC's own data, from its FY2025 annual report.

CBC is an integrated central bank. This figure covers the whole institution, including monetary policy, currency and reserve management functions alongside supervision, and is not directly comparable with standalone supervisory authorities.
